Whales, crayfish, crabs, crocodiles, etc. are hand-silk-screen printed on handmade paper made from old cloth that would have been discarded. Mithila artist Rambharos Jha grew up on the banks of the Ganges River and gradually became fascinated with life in the water. The creatures that appear in the picture book are drawn based on his memories of seeing them in the river when he was a child. Mithila art, characterized by its colorful use of colors and delicate techniques, was originally passed down from generation to generation by women living in Bihar, India.
