A turtle was silk-screen printed by hand on handmade paper made from old cloth that would otherwise have been discarded. Meena art is said to be the oldest type of folk painting in India. It is said that it originated from women who drew pictures on the walls and floors of private houses. It is painted without a brush, by dipping the cloth into a paste of chalk and lime and pushing it out with the fingers. Sunita, a painter, also comes from a tribe where Meena art has been passed down, and since she was a child she has applied Meena art to the walls of her village, learning from her mother and older sister.
